There are moments in life when everything seems to slow down, and we find ourselves suspended between what was and what is yet to come. These quiet periods of reflection can appear during times of change, loss, uncertainty, or simply when we need space to reconnect with ourselves.
In these moments, we are reminded of the delicate balance between holding on and letting go. Between rest and movement. Between stillness and transformation.
Fountain of Youth is a visual meditation on this space in between. It captures the quiet resilience that exists beneath the surface, reminding us that even in moments of pause, life continues to hold the possibility of renewal.
A frozen moment of resilience
The creation of this piece was born from a period of quiet observation and reflection. It captures a single white daisy resting at the edge of ice, surrounded by rich green leaves and vibrant golden blossoms frozen in time.
The ice represents a temporary pause, not an ending. It is a symbol of stillness and impermanence, but also of protection and resilience.
This artwork explores the fragile moment between freezing and thawing. Looking closely at the print, the intricate layers and textures of the translucent ice reveal themselves, creating a delicate surface that both covers and protects the life beneath.
To me, this became a powerful metaphor for the human experience. There are moments when we may feel paused, uncertain, or unable to move forward. Yet beneath that stillness, something remains alive. A quiet strength continues to exist, waiting patiently for the right moment to emerge again.
The quiet beauty of renewal
The natural colors within this artwork carry their own sense of harmony and balance. The soft greens, warm golden tones, and delicate white petals create a visual connection to the landscapes where life begins again after winter.
Green has long been associated with nature, renewal, and growth, while golden tones often evoke warmth, light, and vitality. Together, these elements create a sense of calm optimism, inviting the viewer to slow down and reconnect with a feeling of possibility.
Beneath the icy surface lies the symbolic “fountain of youth”: not a place where time is reversed, but a reminder of the vitality and strength that remain within us through every season of life.
This artwork reflects an important truth: stillness is not the absence of growth. Often, it is within quiet moments that restoration begins.
Trusting the process of change
As the ice slowly melts and the seasons shift, nature reminds us that transformation happens in its own time. What appears frozen is not necessarily lost. Beneath every pause, there is movement waiting to return.
Fountain of Youth is an invitation to trust this process. It reminds us that change is not something to resist, but a natural part of becoming.
Like the first signs of spring emerging after winter, we too carry the ability to renew, adapt, and find our way back toward warmth and light.
Nanda Bussers is a visual artist and creator of the EARTH method for intuitive and healing nature photography. Her work explores the quiet connection between nature, presence and inner stillness. Each image is an invitation to pause for a moment, to breathe more slowly, and to reconnect with the natural world, yourself and the moments that often pass unnoticed.
