#43. The Healing Power of Nature: How Nature Photography Brings Comfort and Harmony

Gepubliceerd op 11 mei 2025 om 07:00

Grief, farewell, and remembrance are moments filled with deep emotions. I’ve experienced these moments myself and seen how much the environment can affect our emotional state. A space can either feel like a warm embrace, a place of comfort and peace, or it can feel cold and distant. What happens when a space feels impersonal or lacks warmth? How can we create environments that offer support and evoke serenity?

Bring the tranquility and harmony of the natural world indoors

I’ve found that the answer often lies in the small, meaningful details. One detail is nature photography. It has the power to bring the tranquility and harmony of the natural world indoors, helping to create an atmosphere that soothes and calms. In this blog, I want to share how I’ve used nature photography to contribute to a comforting environment and how you can use it in your own space as well.

How the Environment Affects Our Emotions

Thinking about spaces like funeral homes, care facilities, and memorial rooms, I’ve noticed firsthand the profound impact a room's design can have on visitors' emotional well-being. When we’re dealing with intense emotions like loss or sadness, a space that radiates warmth, peace, and safety can help us process those feelings. Every space, every moment is unique. You might want to soften a memorial room with warm, earthy tones or enrich a care facility with images of calm waters and lush forests.

Studies show that natural elements in our environment can reduce stress, ease anxiety, and give a sense of well-being. When I add natural colors, organic shapes, and calming images into a space, I notice how people instinctively feel more at ease. Nature has an ancient connection with our minds, helping us return to a balanced state.

I remember a few years ago, I was asked by an Alzheimer Café to help transform their space into a warmer, more comforting environment. Using my nature photography, I brought the seasons into their venue, with an image for each month. My work also hung in the waiting room of a doctor's office, where it helped create a peaceful, soothing atmosphere.

Why Nature Photography Brings Comfort

For me, nature photography is much more than decoration. It’s a tool with a deep emotional impact. I’ve seen how images of soft mist over a lake, warm autumn colors in a forest, or a babbling stream in a peaceful landscape can evoke a feeling of security and reflection.

  • Peace and calm: The greens and natural landscapes in my photos help reduce stress and create a tranquil atmosphere.
  • A sense of connection: When people are grieving, they often seek comfort in nature. A photo of a serene sunrise or a quiet forest path can evoke that deep connection.
  • Timeless and meaningful: Unlike temporary decorations, nature fine art prints offer lasting comfort and beauty.

By bringing the beauty of nature indoors, we create spaces that offer comfort, peace, and a deep sense of connection—reminding us that even in difficult times, nature’s healing presence is always within reach.

Nanda Bussers is a visual artist and creator of the EARTH method for intuitive and healing nature photography. Her work explores the quiet connection between nature, presence and inner stillness. Each image is an invitation to pause for a moment, to breathe more slowly, and to reconnect with the natural world, yourself and the moments that often pass unnoticed.

Bringing the presence of nature into your space

My photographs are available as art prints through ArtHeroes and Werk aan de Muur in Europe, and as fine art prints via Fine Art America worldwide. Each piece is created to carry a sense of stillness and connection, whether it offers comfort, reflection or simply a quiet moment within a space.

In addition, I offer a selection of low-resolution images for more personal uses such as memorial or prayer cards. If you feel drawn to a specific image or would like guidance in choosing something that fits your space or intention, you are always welcome to get in touch.
