#42. Between Two Worlds: A Digital Nomad’s Journey Through Nature, Grief & Grounding

Gepubliceerd op 7 mei 2025 om 07:00

What does it mean to feel at home when you’re always on the move?

Over the past few weeks, I’ve found myself unexpectedly grounded in the Netherlands. It was supposed to be temporary, but I’m still here, our lovely home hasn’t found a new tenant just yet. And while that brings some logistical challenges, I’m also enjoying this unexpected pause. The weather has been beautiful, the garden is blooming, and the cat is grateful I’m here.

Living Between Places

One question I’ve been asked often lately: “Are you enjoying being on your own?”
And honestly? Yes, most of the time. I always find things to do. Whether that’s working on new content for NPOTY and Nature Talks, diving deeper into my own Earth Embrace projects, or simply observing the small wonders outside my window.

The Freedom & Challenge of a Nomadic Life

Being a location-independent entrepreneur is a gift as I’m lucky to be able to work from anywhere - but not without questions.
Where is home, when it doesn’t have a fixed address?

Those questions came up often this month. But within the uncertainty, I discovered a new kind of rhythm.

  • I started working out again.
  • I reconnected with (photo) friends and family.
  • I visited the Botanical Gardens in Utrecht.
  • I attended a funeral fair - a surprisingly inspiring event, full of meaningful encounters.
  • And yes… bol.com still knows where I live 😉 (unlike some Norwegian webshops!).
  • Most importantly: I spent time in nature, camera in hand.

Slowing Down Through the Lens

One magical morning, I stepped into the fields with two photography friends. The world was quiet. Dew glistened on dandelion fluff. Tiny spiderwebs caught the light. Spring whispered its arrival.

Through my lens, I felt something larger than an image. The healing power of attention.
Of slowing down. Of seeing beauty in the small things. Of pausing, just long enough to breathe, to feel, to root.

That’s what I hope to share through Earth Embrace: my method combining grief photography, nature, and healing.
That healing often begins with presence.
That nature mirrors our emotional journey: our grief, resilience, and growth.

Earth Day Reflection: Awareness Through Art

For Earth Day, I shared a piece I originally created for Rotary’s “End Plastic Soup Now” campaign. The image, titled Our Power, Our Planet, had recently been sent back to me.

It served as a powerful reminder of why I create:
Reconnection through beauty. Protection through awareness.

What This Season Taught Me

  • That living as an expat or digital nomad requires flexibility - and self-compassion.
  • That even in uncertainty, you can create rhythm - through nature, creativity, and connection.
  • That healing doesn’t always need answers - but presence.
  • And that “home” is sometimes just where the morning light hits a dandelion the right way.

As my husband often says: “I take it day by day.”
I’m learning to do the same.
