There are seasons in life when everything feels heavier than usual. When grief lingers quietly in the background, when the pace of the world becomes overwhelming, or when we lose touch with our own natural rhythm, we often search for something that helps us feel grounded again.
For me, that connection has always been found in nature. Not only in the grand landscapes or extraordinary moments, but often in the smallest encounters: a shift in light, the first signs of a new season, or a fragile creature moving through the world with quiet determination. Photography became my way of preserving those moments of presence.
Finding beauty in the beginning of spring
This image of an Orange Tip butterfly (Oranjetipje) among the first spring blossoms is one of the photographs that continues to stay close to my heart. I captured it during a morning workshop, in that special time of year when nature seems to awaken slowly after the stillness of winter.
What I remember most is not only the image itself, but the atmosphere surrounding it: the cool morning air, the softness of the early light. It was a moment that asked nothing of me. It simply invited me to be present. When we look at this photograph, we may see a small detail from nature. But for me, it represents something much deeper: the quiet resilience of returning, growing, and beginning again.
The gentle rhythm of renewal
I named this piece Whispers of Spring because spring rarely arrives all at once. It does not announce itself loudly. Instead, it appears through small and almost unnoticed changes: a warmer ray of sunlight, the first flowers opening, the return of delicate wings moving through the garden. Life often unfolds in the same way.
During periods of transition, we may feel the pressure to move forward quickly or to return immediately to a place of strength. Yet nature reminds us that becoming takes time. A flower does not rush to bloom, and a butterfly does not emerge in a single moment. Every transformation has its own quiet rhythm.
Art as a moment of emotional rest
This photograph is an invitation to slow down and notice what is already here. It does not ask us to solve anything or move beyond what we are feeling. Instead, it offers a small pause: a place where the eyes can rest and the mind can soften. The most meaningful images are often not the ones that demand our attention, but the ones that gently hold it.
Whispers of Spring is a reminder that softness is not weakness, and that quiet moments can carry profound strength. We do not always need dramatic change to feel hope returning. Sometimes, it arrives through something as simple as morning light, a fragile wing, or the first signs of spring.
Beauty cannot take away every difficult moment. But sometimes, it can hold us for a while.
And sometimes, that is enough.
Nanda Bussers is a visual artist and creator of the EARTH method for intuitive and healing nature photography. Her work explores the quiet connection between nature, presence and inner stillness. Each image is an invitation to pause for a moment, to breathe more slowly, and to reconnect with the natural world, yourself and the moments that often pass unnoticed.
Bringing the presence of nature into your space
My photographs are available as art prints through ArtHeroes and Werk aan de Muur in Europe, and as fine art prints via Fine Art America worldwide. Each piece is created to carry a sense of stillness and connection, whether it offers comfort, reflection or simply a quiet moment within a space.
In addition, I offer a selection of low-resolution images for more personal uses such as memorial or prayer cards. If you feel drawn to a specific image or would like guidance in choosing something that fits your space or intention, you are always welcome to get in touch.
