#44. Fountain of Life: Finding Rest and Flow Beneath the Surface

Sometimes, our minds and bodies quietly ask for a different pace. In a world that constantly pulls our attention in many directions, there comes a moment when we need to stop navigating schedules and expectations, and simply allow ourselves to rest.

It is often in these quieter moments of transition that we rediscover the space to breathe, to reflect, and to reconnect with the natural rhythm within ourselves.

This search for stillness and surrender is deeply woven into Fountain of Life. It is an artwork that invites you to release the need for control and to simply flow with the movement of life.

An unexpected shift toward fluidity

The creation of this piece arrived completely unexpectedly. While working on my Stardust series, I captured an image that felt entirely different from the work I had been creating. It was quieter, softer, and more fluid, almost like a memory or emotion slowly unfolding beneath the surface of water.

Instead of trying to make it fit within the story I was building at the time, I decided to simply listen to what the image was asking for. I allowed it to exist without immediately defining its purpose.

Later, during an Art Based Learning course, this image returned to my thoughts with a surprising clarity. It felt as though it had been waiting for the right moment to reveal its meaning. It became the starting point for a new artistic direction: Underwater Flowers.

In this body of work, color, light, and movement come together to explore freedom, transformation, and the natural flow of life. These images are not about capturing a technically perfect moment. They are about the emotion that remains afterward, the feeling of softness, wonder, and quiet connection.

Art as a gentle space for reflection and transition

During times of grief, change, or emotional overwhelm, the spaces we surround ourselves with become especially meaningful. Our nervous system is constantly responding to our environment, searching for signals of safety, comfort, and calm.

In these moments, art can become more than something we simply look at. It can become a quiet place to pause. A space where emotions are allowed to exist, where the mind can soften, and where beauty can create a small moment of relief.

With its red and pink flowers suspended beneath the surface, surrounded by delicate bubbles dissolving into light, Fountain of Life becomes a visual breath. The floating flowers appear weightless, moving gently between presence and release.

The artwork is a tribute to life in all its fragility. It reminds us that beauty can also be found in moments of change, impermanence, and transformation.

Bringing the flow of nature into your home

Fountain of Life, which has been featured in Kunstvitamine Magazine and the Artists Yearbook, is an invitation to bring a sense of calm, reflection, and natural flow into your everyday environment.

A single image cannot replace the experience of being surrounded by nature, feeling the movement of water, or witnessing the delicate balance of life firsthand. But it can serve as a visual anchor, a reminder to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with the quiet spaces within ourselves.

Like flowers moving beneath the surface of water, we are always changing, always flowing, and always finding our way.

Nanda Bussers is a visual artist and creator of the EARTH method for intuitive and healing nature photography. Her work explores the quiet connection between nature, presence and inner stillness. Each image is an invitation to pause for a moment, to breathe more slowly, and to reconnect with the natural world, yourself and the moments that often pass unnoticed.

Bringing the presence of nature into your space

My photographs are available as art prints through ArtHeroes and Werk aan de Muur in Europe, and as fine art prints via Fine Art America worldwide. Each piece is created to carry a sense of stillness and connection, whether it offers comfort, reflection or simply a quiet moment within a space.

In addition, I offer a selection of low-resolution images for more personal uses such as memorial or prayer cards. If you feel drawn to a specific image or would like guidance in choosing something that fits your space or intention, you are always welcome to get in touch.
