Every journey begins somewhere. Whether we look at the vastness of the cosmos or the quieter landscapes of our own inner world, there is often a moment before everything takes shape. A moment of stillness, uncertainty, and possibility, where nothing is fully visible yet, but something is already beginning to emerge.
This artwork is the opening chapter of my Stardust series, a visual story told through eight sequential photographs. While the chapters that follow reveal more colour, movement, and light, this first image carries the essence of the beginning itself. It represents the moment before transformation, when the first spark appears within the darkness.
The quiet importance of the beginning
When I was creating this collection, I found myself hesitating with this particular piece. It is darker, quieter, and more mysterious than the photographs that follow. At first, I wondered if it belonged among the others.
Yet the more I looked at it, the more I understood that it was not only part of the story. It was where the story had to begin.
Without this moment of stillness, the emergence of light would not carry the same meaning.
Within this abstract composition, a soft golden-white glow seems to slowly reveal itself through layers of deep shadow and texture. Tiny air bubbles are suspended throughout the image, resembling fragments of dust or distant particles waiting to take form. It captures that fragile moment before movement begins: the space between what has been and what is about to unfold.
Finding light within the unknown
There are moments in life when we find ourselves in a similar place. Times when the path ahead is not yet clear, when change is happening beneath the surface, or when we are simply learning to sit with uncertainty.
We often celebrate the moments when everything is visible: the blooming, the transformation, the arrival. Yet nature reminds us that every beginning requires a quieter phase first. Seeds grow in darkness before they reach toward the light. Stars become visible because they are surrounded by the depth of the night sky.
The darkness is not the absence of creation. It is part of the process.
This first chapter of Stardust is a tribute to those unseen moments of becoming. It invites us to soften our need for immediate answers and to trust that something can be forming, even when we cannot yet see the outcome.
The first spark
What makes this image meaningful to me is the way it holds both stillness and possibility. It does not demand attention through brightness or colour, but gently invites us to look closer and notice the subtle movement within the quiet.
In that way, Chapter One becomes more than an image of darkness. It becomes a reminder that every journey begins with a single moment of light, however small it may appear.
It is a visual anchor for times when life feels uncertain, offering a quiet space to pause, breathe, and remember that transformation often begins long before it becomes visible.
