Small Acts, Big Impact
A man reaching out to help a young girl as they collect litter together - it was a fleeting moment, quiet and almost unnoticeable, yet full of meaning. I captured this photo during a local cleanup two years ago, and it still resonates with me. That simple gesture - one hand reaching for another - says so much about how real change begins: close to home, in small steps, and through connection.
EndPlasticSoup: Together for a Cleaner World
Recently, Rotary Weert shared this image back with me. It's now proudly featured on their new banner, a reminder of that meaningful day. The cleanup was part of the Rotary International's #EndPlasticSoup campaign and brought together dozens of volunteers. In bright yellow vests, we filled bag after bag with cigarette butts, cans, tires, and even abandoned furniture. You’d be amazed at what’s hiding along just a meters of roadside.
But what stayed with me wasn’t just the amount of waste - it was the energy. There was something hopeful in the air: a lightness, a shared sense of purpose. Strangers worked side by side, chatted over coffee, and celebrated the small victories of a cleaner street corner. The sun shone, people smiled.
A Personal Moment of Meaning
What made it even more personal for me: the whole event was coordinated by my husband. Over the years, he has quietly walked hundreds of kilometers, collecting litter as his own way of making a difference. Seeing him organize this initiative and seeing that moment captured, then shared back, touched me deeply. It’s a gentle reminder that we all have power. We just need to use it.
Earth Day 2025: The Power of Showing Up
This year’s Earth Day theme, Our Power, Our Planet, speaks straight to my heart. We don’t need to be perfect. We just need to care, to show up, and to keep going. Real change doesn’t always look dramatic. Sometimes it’s a walk, a gesture, a helping hand. It’s in the small, consistent actions where true impact grows.
Nature, Photography and Silence
Nature teaches me again and again how much there is to see when we really look. Through nature photography and visual storytelling with Earth Embrace, I try to capture that quiet power. The kind that comforts, connects, and inspires without needing words. Moments like the one between the man and the girl are why I do what I do.
Thank You for Walking This Path Together
To Rotary Weert: thank you for giving this photo a new life. Your banner isn’t just an image; it’s a symbol of what becomes possible when we care, together.
Let’s keep creating quiet change, hand in hand.
