#56. Comfort Colours - A Rainbow of Light in Dark Times (2020 Retrospective)

When life feels heavy or colourless, finding strength during grief can feel impossible. That’s why I created Comfort Colours - a series of abstract photos offering soft sparks of light and hope in dark times.

The Project - Comfort Through Colour and Light

This project began during a 2020 photography mentorship with nature photographer Bart Siebelink. My goal was to express how colour and light can offer comfort and resilience during loss or major life change. I found inspiration in the colours of the rainbow - a universal symbol of hope after the storm. Each photo in the series is a search for balance and a quiet invitation to keep seeing the light, even when things feel dark.

One of the images in deep blue often evokes strong reactions. Some feel held by it; others see the shape of a dolphin or sea creature. It shows how colour and form can speak to each of us differently - and that’s exactly what I hope to create with my work.

The Healing Power of Colour

Colour and light do more than please the eye. They can shift our emotions and even help us heal. Each colour holds a different energy:

🔴 Red - Strength and action
🌸 Pink - Calm and emotional release
🟠 Orange - Vitality and creativity
💛 Yellow - Joy and clarity
💚 Green - Peace and connection
🔵 Blue - Rest and reflection
🟣 Purple - Inner stillness and depth
⚪ White - Purity, quiet, and space for renewal

My mission is simple: to offer small moments of comfort through photography. Whether it’s the calming blue of the sky, the grounding green of nature, or the fiery red of strength - I hope these images offer you something to hold on to.
