Sundew Macro Photography Workshop

Macro Magic: Photographing Sundew in Natural Light & Stillness

For experienced photographers who seek silence, subtle beauty, and soulful focus. Join me for an intimate photography workshop dedicated to the magical world of sundew — a tiny, glistening carnivorous plant found in one of the most delicate natural environments. This is a rare opportunity to explore and photograph this miniature wonder with care, intention, and artistic depth. With only 2–3 participants, this workshop offers space for stillness, personal attention, and a respectful approach to the fragile habitat. The workshop will be conducted in English.

Workshop sundew photography

This macro photography workshop in the area of Oslo/Ski focuses on capturing the vibrant colors and intricate details of fascinating sundew.

Sundew teaches us that beauty is found in stillness — and only those who truly slow down will see it.

If you're longing for a quiet moment in nature to create meaningful, intimate images — this is your invitation.

What to Expect

  • Photographing in soft early morning light for atmosphere and depth
  • Composing with care: working with mood, minimalism, and natural storytelling
  • Deepening your connection with nature through slow, mindful photography
  • Creative guidance on macro techniques (depth of field, lighting, lens choice, and reflections)
  • Backgrounds and Composition
Discover techniques to create stunning backgrounds and elevate your compositions.
  • Creative Process
I will guide you through my own creative process and show you how I bring my photos to life.

What You Won’t Get

  • Technical Depth
While I’ll cover the essential technical aspects of photography, this workshop won’t dive deep into specific camera brands or complex theories.

What You’ll Gain

  • A Unique Experience
Join a small group of like-minded individuals (maximum 3 people) for an inspiring and informative morning.

Photography gear you need to bring

  • Macro Accessories: Include items like extension tubes, close-up filters, diffusers, reflectors, and small flashlights.
  • Camera: A compact camera or mirrorless camera will work well.
  • Memory Cards: Bring plenty of spare memory cards.
  • Fully Charged Batteries: Ensure you have fully charged batteries.
  • Tripod: While not mandatory, a tripod can be helpful; however, it might sometimes hinder your composition.
  • Camera Protection: Bring a plastic bag or cover to protect your camera in case of rain.
  • Camera Manual: Having your camera’s manual on hand can help with setting adjustments.
  • Clothing: Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty.
  • Sitting Pad: Consider bringing something to sit on, like a trash bag.
  • Waterproof boots or wellies — the ground is often very wet
  • Rain gear or a lightweight rain suit (we’ll be close to the ground and possibly kneeling in moist areas)
  • A kneeling pad or waterproof mat (optional but recommended)
  • Patience, presence, and openness to slowness

Workshop Details

  • This workshop is designed for more experienced photographers who are comfortable using manual settings and wish to refine their creative voice and connection to nature.
  • I believe in providing personalized guidance, which is why this workshop is limited to a maximum of 3 participants. It is designed for beginner nature photographers who are eager to enhance their macro photography skills.
  • About a week before the workshop, you will receive additional information to help you prepare.
  • The workshop will start at 9:30 AM with a practical presentation. After the presentation, we will head out to photograph, during which I will be available to answer questions, offer tips, and review your results. The program will conclude by 12:30 PM.
  • Location & atmosphere: We will be working in a quiet, protected nature reserve where sundew grows. This is not a fast-paced shoot — it’s a contemplative experience rooted in respect, stillness, and the joy of close observation.
  • Date: Likely late July (exact date to be confirmed)
