We Are Made of Stars: Finding Comfort in the Cosmic Cycle

The Stardust series was born from intuition and a deep curiosity about our place in the universe.
It began not with a plan but with a whisper from within. In the vastness of the cosmos, I found a profound sense of comfort.
A reminder that life follows rhythms of arising, disappearing, and renewing.
This perspective brings reassurance to those navigating personal transitions or loss.

Inspiration from the Cosmos

As I began letting go of control in my photography, I stopped chasing the perfect shot and started following instinct instead. Color, emotion, and movement became my guides. Images started to appear that felt ancient and cosmic, like small glimpses of something much larger than myself. In the face of this vast and ever expanding universe, I began to feel how temporary we are. Strangely, that realization did not feel scary. It felt like a quiet kind of belonging, a reminder that we are part of a story much older than ourselves.

The Poetry of Science

What moved me most was the realization that we are literally made of the same matter as the stars. When a star dies, it releases dust that eventually forms new life. This is an eternal pattern where every end carries a new beginning within it. In my photography, I often see this reflected in the small air bubbles trapped in ice. To me, they symbolize tiny particles relating to one another, sometimes still, sometimes connected, always searching for form.

This perspective brings profound reassurance to those navigating personal transitions or loss. It suggests that what falls apart is not lost. What disappears does not cease to exist but changes shape and finds a new place in the larger whole.

A Safe Space for Grief

Grief often brings us to a place of deep silence and darkness, much like the universe began in a vast emptiness. But out of that stillness, light can slowly emerge once more: a memory, a connection, or a new beginning that is still small but already present.

One selection from the Stardust series is now part of the collection at crematorium Hoeve de Zwingel and various natural burial grounds. A staff member there once described the images as poetry without words. This is exactly my aim. I want to create visual spaces where grief can exist without judgment, where memory and presence can be felt even when words fail.

The Mystery Between the Facts

During the first exhibition of this abstract work, I saw how the images bypassed logic and spoke to something softer and more intuitive in the visitors. Some stood in silence while others shared dreams or emotions that the colors and shapes had stirred in them.

The images in the Stardust series do not explain; they suggest. They do not tell a closed story; they open a space. They serve as a bridge between inner reflection and universal rhythms, reminding us of three simple truths:

  • Everything is connected.
  • Everything is in motion.
  • Stillness holds it all.

A Place to Pause

Through Stardust, I want to offer more than just an image to look at. I want to offer a place to pause, to breathe, and to remember. Even in the darkest night, there is movement and renewal. It will never be the same as it was before, but we carry the valuable traces with us.

In the end, this project taught me that I want to create work that makes space for wonder. It is a quiet reminder that beyond our daily worries, we are part of a magnificent, eternal cycle.

We, too, are stardust.

Nanda Bussers is a visual artist and creator of the EARTH method for intuitive and healing nature photography. Her work explores the quiet connection between nature, presence and inner stillness. Each image is an invitation to pause for a moment, to breathe more slowly, and to reconnect with the natural world, yourself and the moments that often pass unnoticed.

Bringing the presence of nature into your space

My photographs are available as art prints through ArtHeroes and Werk aan de Muur in Europe, and as fine art prints via Fine Art America worldwide. Each piece is created to carry a sense of stillness and connection, whether it offers comfort, reflection or simply a quiet moment within a space.

In addition, I offer a selection of low-resolution images for more personal uses such as memorial or prayer cards. If you feel drawn to a specific image or would like guidance in choosing something that fits your space or intention, you are always welcome to get in touch.
