Is your camera gathering dust? If you’re a nature lover who wants to dive back into photography, this might be the perfect opportunity! In this newsletter, I’ll be sharing some valuable insights from my very first macro photography workshop.
As a quick note, this newsletter is coming to you a bit earlier than usual because I’m flying to the Netherlands tonight for the art exhibition in Prinsenbeek.
If you missed my previous newsletter where I talked about my personal journey and my upcoming trip to the South Pole, you can catch up on that here.
๐ฟ How to Slow Down in our Fast-Moving World ๐ธ
Last week, I hosted my very first macro photography workshop, and I have to admit—I was a little nervous. Would everything go as planned? Would the participants get something meaningful out of it? And most importantly, would I be able to answer all their questions?
To make sure everything ran smoothly, I prepared a detailed presentation covering the basics of photography. I also spent the weekend before the workshop scouting the location. It was important to me to know the best spots for shooting, and I even captured a few photos for my website along the way!
3 Essential Photography Principles We Focused On
During the workshop, I guided the participants through some key concepts to help them improve their macro photography skills. Here’s what we covered:
- Focusing on the Small Details Macro photography is all about capturing the tiny, often unnoticed elements in nature. I explained how crucial light and focus are to highlight these details and make them stand out.
- Mastering Technique and Composition We dove into the technical side, discussing the exposure triangle and how it works in macro photography. But beyond the technical aspects, I emphasized that creativity in composition can elevate a photo from good to extraordinary. It’s about understanding the rules and knowing when to break them!
- Taking Time to Slow Down In our fast-paced world, photography offers a chance to pause and observe. I encouraged the participants to slow down, take their time, and notice the beauty around them. This not only enhanced their photography but also provided a calming, mindful experience.
What Participants Had to Say
The workshop was a fantastic day filled with inspiration and discovery! The small group, including Muhammed and Amelia, brought so much energy and enthusiasm, making it a very nice experience for me.
Here’s what they had to say:
"The day flew by! Nanda’s tips sparked my interest in macro photography, and I'm thrilled with how my photos turned out - much better than I ever expected. I’m so grateful for her time and knowledge!" – Muhammed
"I had a fantastic time and learned so many new techniques. The workshop also gave me a chance to slow down in our fast-paced world." – Amelia
What’s Next? ๐
I’m thrilled to announce that after the success of this first workshop, I will schedule another one. If you’ve got a camera sitting on the shelf, now’s the time to dust it off and join me for a fun, hands-on day of macro photography!
Interested in joining? Visit my website for more details—I’ve recently updated the page, so I’d love to hear what you think. Hope to see you there! ๐ฟ๐ธ https://www.nandabussers.com/workshops
Nanda Bussers is a visual artist and creator of the EARTH method for intuitive and healing nature photography. Her work explores the quiet connection between nature, presence and inner stillness. Each image is an invitation to pause for a moment, to breathe more slowly, and to reconnect with the natural world, yourself and the moments that often pass unnoticed.
Bringing the presence of nature into your space
My photographs are available as art prints through ArtHeroes and Werk aan de Muur in Europe, and as fine art prints via Fine Art America worldwide. Each piece is created to carry a sense of stillness and connection, whether it offers comfort, reflection or simply a quiet moment within a space.
In addition, I offer a selection of low-resolution images for more personal uses such as memorial or prayer cards. If you feel drawn to a specific image or would like guidance in choosing something that fits your space or intention, you are always welcome to get in touch.
